Warm welcome to the second International Congress on Motion Sickness which is to take place in Akureyri, Iceland, August 12th – 15th 2025. The congress is held in collaboration with European Society for Clinical Evaluation of Balance Disorders.

Seafaring is an important part of the Icelander’s heritage and way of life, from navigating Vikings to the today fishing industry, that is one of the cornerstones of our economy. However, despite our familiarity with the sea, the burden of sea sickness and accidents at sea have always followed us.

Our congress will focus on advances in Motion Sickness sciences and will include invited plenary lectures, free presentations and poster sessions. This international meeting of those interested in the field, offers an excellent opportunity to exchange information on recent findings and advances in Motion Sickness research i.e., from its background to its social impact.

The theme of the congress is, “Quantitative evaluation of Motion Sickness”. This encompasses biosignal measurements, self reporting and evaluation of symptoms patterns, and evaluation of counter-measures.  Further, it casts light upon the importance of integrating Motion Sickness pathophysiology to central nervous system disturbances.

In addition, we would like to encourage participants to take time to experience the unique Icelandic nature, as well as enjoying some of the many cultural events, Iceland has to offer.

Welcome to Akureyri in August 2025!

Sail the waves of the most advanced postural control science

What is the BioVRSea

BioVRSea is an innovative research paradigms to measure postural control responses using Virtual Reality and a moving platform mimicking the behavior of a boat on the sea.

It facilitates the study and quantification of physiological responses associated with balance and postural control. By tracking biosignals such as Electromyography, Electroencephalography, Center of Pressure, and heart rate, BioVRSea provides crucial insights into how the body and brain coordinate responses in complex sensory environments.

Our research includes healthy subjects and individuals with balance disorders or neurodegenerative diseases, aiming to enhance understanding and develop interventions for these conditions.

Join the BioVRSea Research Journey

Come on Board! Join us at world’s unique BioVRSea platform, where we're exploring how our bodies stay balanced and maintain postural control on a moving platform! Imagine being on a virtual boat, feeling the waves, all while we study how your body reacts.

It's easy to join! You'll wear some cool Virtual Reality google and fancy gears that tracks your body signals, like brain, muscle activity, heart behaviour and your (good?) equilibrium, contributing to more than 1,800 person-specific features per session! Plus, you'll help us understand more about balance issues, and contributing to novel scientific discoveries.

Over 500 people have already sailed with us, and we’re eager to include more voices. Whether you're dealing with balance problems or just love cool science, age is no barrier with us, you're welcome aboard!

Let's make waves together with BioVRSea!
